Why AGACNP Preceptors Are So Hard to Find

Hospital Credentialing Barriers

Hospitals require background checks, drug screens, immunization records, and facility-specific orientations. Many cap student counts, creating bottlenecks that leave AGACNP students waiting months.

Exclusive Program Agreements

Hospital systems often have exclusive contracts with local NP programs. Online or distance AGACNP students get locked out entirely, competing for a small number of unaffiliated slots.

ICU and ED Slots Are Scarce

Critical care and emergency rotations are the most competitive placements in any AGACNP program. Subspecialty slots in cardiology, pulmonology, or neurology are even harder.

That's exactly why we built Clinical Match Me. Instead of chasing preceptors, qualified preceptors come to you.

How It Works

Sign Up Free

Create your account in about two minutes. Tell us your AGACNP specialty focus, rotation dates, required clinical hours, and preferred locations. There’s zero cost and zero commitment to sign up.

Receive Preceptor Offers

Our system automatically matches your placement request with acute care preceptors in our network. Interested preceptors review your profile and send you offers directly. If your request is especially difficult, our AI Preceptor Outreach system contacts providers outside our network to recruit them specifically for your rotation.

Start Your Rotation

Choose the preceptor you like best, accept the offer, and pay only then. You’ll never pay a separate fee to the preceptor. We handle the paperwork coordination with your school, and you’re covered by our money-back guarantee if your school rejects the preceptor for any reason.

Getting an AGACNP Preceptorship That Counts

AGACNP preceptorship rotations are hospital-based by design. You’ll need clinical hours in acute care settings — ICU, emergency department, hospital medicine, or specialty inpatient services like cardiology or pulmonology. An adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner preceptor must be pre-credentialed at the hospital where you rotate, which is the single biggest scheduling hurdle in this specialty. Expect to see procedure-heavy cases: central line placement, intubation, ventilator management, and acute interventions. Your hours apply toward AGACNP-BC certification, and hospital credentialing paperwork often takes 6-8 weeks — start early.

Why AGACNP Students Choose Clinical Match Me

Acute Care Preceptors Nationwide

Our network includes AGACNPs, ACNPs, physicians, and PAs working in ICUs, emergency departments, step-down units, and acute care specialty clinics across all 50 states. If you’re in an online AGACNP program, we can match you with hospital-based preceptors near you.

Zero Upfront Cost

You won’t pay anything until a preceptor sends you an offer and you choose to accept it. No deposits, no sign-up fees, no subscription charges. The flat rate of $1,995 covers everything, and payment plans run up to 24 months.

AI Preceptor Outreach for Hard-to-Fill Rotations

ICU, ED, and subspecialty rotations are tough to fill from any static preceptor list. When your request is especially difficult, our AI Outreach system automatically contacts acute care providers outside our network and recruits them specifically for your rotation.

Money-Back Guarantee

If your school rejects the preceptor for any reason, you get a full refund. If the preceptor cancels or disappears, you get a full refund. You’re protected from the credentialing surprises that are common with hospital-based rotations.

What Our Students Say

Hospital Credentialing Timeline: What to Expect Before Your AGACNP Rotation

AGACNP rotations almost always require hospital-based placements, which means credentialing. And credentialing takes time. Planning 4 to 8 weeks before your rotation start date is the minimum buffer most programs recommend.

Typical hospital credentialing requirements include: a federal and state background check, a 5- or 10-panel drug screen, current immunization records (MMR, Tdap, varicella, full hepatitis B series, annual flu, and often COVID-19), TB screening (PPD or IGRA blood test with chest X-ray for a positive result), BLS certification, ACLS certification for most acute-care placements, and N95 fit testing. Large teaching hospitals add more: pharmacology modules, EMR training (often Epic-specific), safety-orientation videos, and a signed confidentiality agreement.

Facility orientations themselves run 4 to 12 hours and sometimes spread across multiple days. Academic medical centers may require a week-long orientation covering HIPAA specifics, facility-specific sepsis and rapid-response protocols, and role-based EMR training. If your rotation is in the ICU or ED, expect additional competency verification: demonstrating familiarity with ventilator modes, vasopressor titration, ACLS rhythm recognition, or specific procedural skills.

Affiliation agreements between your school and the hospital must be in place before your rotation starts. Large hospital systems typically maintain standing agreements with affiliated local NP programs. If you are in an online or distance program, your school may need to negotiate a new agreement from scratch. That process often takes 6 to 12 weeks on its own and can be the biggest delay in the entire rotation timeline.

Clinical Match Me pre-screens AGACNP preceptors for hospital privileges at their primary facility. When you submit your rotation, we flag the likely credentialing timeline based on the hospital system, so you can start gathering documentation early and avoid surprises.

AGACNP Preceptor FAQs

Yes. Our network includes preceptors working in medical and surgical ICUs, cardiac ICUs, emergency departments, step-down units, and acute care subspecialties like cardiology, pulmonology, nephrology, and neurology. For hard-to-fill subspecialty rotations, our AI Preceptor Outreach system actively recruits providers outside our existing network to find the right match for you.

Absolutely. A large portion of our students are enrolled in online or distance AGACNP programs and need hospital preceptors near their home. We work with preceptors who are willing and able to take students from any accredited program, not just locally affiliated ones. Just tell us your location and we’ll match you with available acute care preceptors in your area.

AGACNP preceptors are typically Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NPs (AGACNPs), Acute Care Certified Nurse Practitioners (ACNPs), physicians (MDs or DOs), or physician assistants working in acute care settings. Your school may have specific requirements about which provider types qualify. When you submit a placement request, we’ll match you with preceptors who meet both our standards and your program’s criteria.

Hospital credentialing is between you, your school, and the facility. What we do is match you with a preceptor who’s willing to take you on and help coordinate the paperwork. If the hospital ultimately rejects you during credentialing, our money-back guarantee has you covered. You’ll get a full refund and can try again with a different preceptor at no additional cost.

Signing up is free. You don’t pay anything until you accept an offer from a preceptor. The flat rate is $1,995 for rotations up to 250 hours, and that’s all-inclusive. There’s never a separate payment to the preceptor. We also offer payment plans from 2 to 24 months if you’d rather spread out the cost.

AGACNP preceptors in our network practice in a wide range of acute and critical care settings, including hospital intensive care units (ICUs), emergency departments, step-down units, cardiac care units, surgical units, trauma centers, and specialty inpatient services. Some programs also accept urgent care or specialty outpatient clinics focused on acute episodic care. We match you based on your program’s specific clinical requirements and the patient acuity level you need.

Yes. We verify preceptor credentials before matching, and we handle the paperwork between you, your preceptor, and your school. If your school rejects the preceptor for any reason, you get a full refund through our Money-Back Guarantee. Over 10,000 students have used our service, and school approval rates are extremely high because we ensure preceptors meet standard credentialing requirements before they ever send you an offer.

Most AGACNP programs require between 500 and 750 total clinical hours across multiple rotations in acute care, critical care, and emergency settings. Individual rotations typically range from 120 to 250 hours each. Acute care rotations often have different scheduling than primary care since they may involve 12-hour shifts or weekend coverage. When you submit a Placement Request, specify your exact requirements and we’ll match you accordingly. Our flat-rate pricing covers rotations up to 250 hours.

As early as possible. Acute care sites in hospitals and ICUs require institutional credentialing and background checks, which can add weeks to the onboarding timeline. We recommend signing up and submitting a Placement Request at least 3 months before your rotation start date. Many students get matched within days, but the hospital credentialing process means you need extra lead time. Since registration is free and there’s no obligation to pay until you accept an offer, there’s no downside to starting early.
